Nowadays, diesel engines are widely used in vehicles, but there are also unsuitable models. Before we buy automotive engines, we need to know their advantages and disadvantages in order to choose the right engines better.
Here is the content list:
What is the automotive engine?
What is the working principle of a automotive engine?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of automotive engines?
Automotive diesel engines are divided into single cylinder, double cylinder, four cylinder, six cylinder, eight cylinder, 12 cylinder, multi cylinder, etc. decades ago, people once gave up diesel cars. The image of diesel engine with large volume, high noise and bad smell still remains in many people's memory. However, after decades of development, modern diesel engine has become a clean emission, energy saving power, is a feasible transitional technology solutions. In Europe, the sales volume of diesel vehicles has accounted for 40% of the total sales volume of vehicles, and the sales volume of diesel vehicles in the U.S. market is gradually increasing.
The piston can only complete a working cycle by four processes: intake, compression, combustion expansion and exhaust. There are many kinds of engines, among which four stroke diesel engine is the most common one.
Intake stroke:
The inlet valve is opened and the exhaust valve is closed. The piston moves from the top dead center to the bottom stop point under the drive of crankshaft and connecting rod, and sucks fresh air into the cylinder.
Compression stroke:
The inlet and exhaust valve is closed, and the piston moves from the lower dead center to the top stop under the drive of crankshaft and connecting rod. The air drawn into the cylinder is compressed into high temperature and high pressure gas.
Power stroke:
After the compression stroke is over, the fuel injector injects the fuel into the cylinder. Under the action of high temperature and high pressure gas, the fuel is compressed and ignited, which generates huge energy in the cylinder, which pushes the piston to move from the top dead center to the bottom stop point, and the crankshaft flywheel bank stores and outputs energy.
Exhaust stroke:
The intake valve is closed and the exhaust valve is opened. Driven by the crankshaft and connecting rod, the piston moves from the bottom dead center to the top dead center to discharge the exhaust gas after combustion in the cylinder. Only the energy generated by the working stroke is produced in the four strokes, and the other three strokes are all completed by the inertia of the crankshaft and flywheel.
Advantages
1. Under the same displacement, the fuel loss of the diesel engine is less than that of gasoline engine。
2. Compression ignition diesel engine is more economical and more efficient than gasoline engine.
3. The supply of diesel oil is more than that of gasoline, so the general agricultural machinery vehicles, engineering vehicles and tractors all use diesel engines as power machines.
Disadvantage
1. The noise and vibration of the automotive engine is always a big problem. At low speed or idle speed, the noise of diesel engine is obviously higher than that of gasoline engine. This is a defect that needs to be addressed.
2. The manufacturing process of diesel engine is more complex, so the technical cost is higher than that of gasoline engine.
3. At the same displacement, the capacity of gasoline engines is higher than that of diesel engines.
